"The Day The Earth Stood Still" Space Broadcast

The Day The Earth Stood Still (2008) — the movie about aliens coming to Earth to wipe out mankind is going to be broadcast into space. The director of the new remake, Scott Derrickson, doesn't want to be blamed for aliens landing on Earth after they see his movie.

The Earth Stood Still transmission will reach any possible civilizations currently orbiting Alpha Centauri approximately four years from now, in the year 2012. Maybe they'll zoom down for some bailout cash.

Still The Greatest Western Ever Made, 40 Yrs Later

Once Upon a Time in the West (1968) Sergio Leone may have pioneered the spaghetti western with his "Dollar Trilogy," but the Italian director's true masterpiece is the dark, star-studded Once Upon a Time in the West. The story of love and violence on the American frontier successfully balances an epic-poetic scope with the formulaic conventions of pulp subgenre. West is complemented by Ennio Morricone's haunting score and script assistance by latter-day scandal-maker Bernardo Bertolucci and would-be horror maestro Dario Argento (both were mere film critics when they worked on the project). Four decades on, the film is a testament to the genre's rugged durability and the enduring allure of its symbolism.
